Em Jackson

Drawing is my medium. While I sometimes do Large mixed media drawings, most of my drawings are done with graphite or colored pencils on a small scale. I began making art as a fiber artist, and in the many tiny lines that make up my drawings, there is an echo of the patterns made by stitches on fabric. I like my work to have a strong visual impact paired with excruciating detail, subtle humor and unsubtle irony.

I use imagery from 1950s magazines for the content of much of my work. These are images from my formative years, so they are deeply embedded in my imagination.  I use these images, in an ironic way, to make commentary on contemporary social issues.
